As many across our nation and around the world do their best to mitigate the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are taking steps at Thalia UMC to keep everyone as healthy as possible.
In response to the announcement from Bishop Lewis on Friday, March 13, we are canceling worship services for March 15 and 22. Pastor Joe will be providing creative ways for everyone to worship from home and online for those who wish to live-stream worship. The official statement can be found at this link https://vaumc.org/Coronavirus2020
The most important things I want to urge everyone to do at this time are:
- pray for peace and healing
- practice good personal hygiene
- abstain from personal contact (no handshaking or hugging for now)
- stay home if you are ill or concerned.
I am working on plans to live-stream worship on Facebook.
We are looking ahead to plan for future adjustments as needed, including how we will celebrate Holy Communion and what we will do regarding the April 5 Potluck. We will keep you informed as those decisions are made.
Again, please take this time to practice excellent personal hygiene and good judgment as an act of service to one another. This is an opportunity for our family of faith to embody the love of Christ by doing everything we can to keep each other as healthy as possible. Thank you for your patience and compassion during this time. Please feel free to call us at 757-340-5015 or email me through our website at thaliaumc.org if you have questions or concerns. You can find a letter from Bishop Lewis regarding COVID-19 on our website or at the Conference Office page.
Grace and Peace,
Rev. Joe Varner
